I've been messing with RAM in my 700.... I wanna put more than the measly 20 megs in there, but so far no luck... Alledgedly 68 is possible (64 on sticks and then 4 soldered) but as of now, I am trying the different SIMMs from my 950 to see what each one is, but the 700 wont boot with just 1 stick in or 2.... going to try with 3 and 4 to see if there is a pattern it must follow in order to boot. It boots off of none in the slots, but not wih just 1 or 2. If there is a pattern specific way of having the RAM inserted into the Quadra, please let me know.... mainly because.... IT'S BUGGING THE CRAP OUT OF ME! sorry... just a we bit frustrated... lol

I think the 700 needs RAM installed in sets of 4 SIMMs, all the same size (check out LEM). Sometimes you can puzzle out the capacity of the stick by counting chips and making wild assumptions about the gobbledygook printed on the chips.

To bad nobody makes a handy-dandy SIMMometer

ARGH.... The info is VERY helpful, seeing as my 950 has 72 megs of RAM in it... the frustrating part now is that the GIANT SIMMs that I have that are 14 megs each will not fit in the case due to the fact that the memory banks are toooooo close together.... bleh... any ideas, or am I screwed?

that was my problem with the 700 i had. I eventually parted it out and trashed what was left. i'd send you some simms, but mine that would fit are smaller in size (megs) and the ones that are larger are also dbl density ( i think that's the right term) simms that wouldn't fit. I'd stick with the 950 and forget the 700, but that's me. i had multiple problems with my 700, though.

The 700 is my fav 68k.... it's strange cuz it does sorta really suck, but its my fav.... why? dunno really... mite have sumthin to do with the appearance in my fav movie Jurassic Park..... who knows. What's the capacity on the simms you have? anything beats 20megs.

Look for powers of two printed on chips. I came across some VRAM simms and deduced that they were 512 k because I think they had 4 chips that each said 128 on them. Maybe it was 256k and 64. The point is, look for familiar numbers. Sometimes the chips will say 1M or 2M on larger RAM simms

The quadra 700 doesn't suck! that's what my hotline server is running on right now!, and btw, it has 68megs of RAM! (4-16 meg low profile simms, paid a chunk of change for e'm too!)

it does have the contraband card in it, but it also runs great in 68k mode

I'm getting 2 700's via eBay a week or two, and when I bid on them, I thought they would make great cheap *nix boxen ($14 for both). I still think they are not too bad, why do I need more than 20 MB on a 68k anyway? It is more than enough for most apps.
