This is probably a(nother) stupid question, but if you have a ethernet card with two connectors... say AAUI and coax, is it possible to assign a separate IP address to each one?

I don't think so... most dual connector cards have ThinNet (coax) and 10bt (twisted pair). Those ports on a card like that are usually on the same controller, it just gives a choice between the type of network connection.

Yep, what Quadra said. Some cards even have three connectors, but only one of them can be functional at a time.

I believe there are a few PCI ethernet cards that have multiple ports and can be used as if they were multiple cards, but you'd know it if you had one of those by the price you paid for it!

I know for sure that Macs with >1 mobo ethernet ports can only use one of them at a time - they do indeed run off the same controller.
