Ok, i picked up a 8600. I'm borrowing it from a friend who hasn't used it for a year. He wants me to get a private carracho server up and going, but I could either add or just do a hotline server of 68k software. I'm picking up a couple of 40 gig drives tomorrow so space won't be an issue. I'm on a throttled cable connection and the company really doesn't like us hosting anything, but I don't really care, comcast's service sucks. So, I'm willing to give the 68k community some space for files, if anybody is wanting it. The only issue is that i don't have the time to download stuff to start it up, so people would have to help at first with getting stuff on to it. Let me know if this you want anything like this.

Hey, sounds like fun!
Just a heads-up: If you're using Comcast's service, you may get socked with charges for running your server. Check out this link:
http://slashdot.org/articles/02/05/26/2134218.shtml?tid=99
I like your idea (esp. since the MLA server seems to have been down for quite a while), but I don't want you to get in over your head.
Hope this helps!

PS Once you get the server up-and-running, I'll be happy to upload any cool stuff I've got!

Thanks for the 411. I'm still living at home (going to local community college) and my dad pays te internet bills. We were beta testers for comcast@home years ago. My whole family and everybody near me hates their service, but our location is far enough away from the dense areas in town, no other companies have come our way. My dad has been looking into an all-in-one fiber optics company that's starting up, phone, tv, internet, etc. Might be switching to that.
I'll probably get the server up and running asap. I ran through my bills and the 40 gig drives will have to wait for a couple of weeks, but there is a 6 gig in it now, and and maybe a 9 in a few days. I'm not too concerned about comcast, they should warn their users that are hogging bandwidth before they up the prices, and if i'm one of them, i'll have to find another way to get it going.
I'll update this post when it's up. Should be within a few days.

Hey sounds good, we can just mirror everywhere . Where is your location? I think we should organize the HL serves/mirros by location (a.k.a. eastern- (me) western, etc.) so If you and jets could leave that here and perhaps someone would work that into the website...? Also, sorry aboot my server being down, my PSU *should* have been in last week, but i guess it will be here early this week. Soon as that happens I will have files back up and a 15 gigger for space. ATA is now also an option for HD's....SO more will be available cheap. So yeah, just my $0.02

There is only one path and that is the path that you take, but you can take more than one path.

I'm in the heart of the midwest, kansas city, ks. Btw, which would service you guys better, hotline, carracho, ftp (i would rather not do ftp, but, it's an option), etc? I like the idea of carracho being updated and supported, but i realize that 68k machines would not be able to connect. Hotline has it's issues like it's out of business, but is a good route for the 68k machines. Let me know, installing a system now. It will be probably be up tomorrow.

Well, I'd love to host a file server, but at the moment I'm lacking in any always-on, high-speed 'net connection. It's pretty frusterating, as I've got more then enough hardware to host a bitchin' server. Alas, oh mighty cable modem, where have you gone?
As for which service/system to use, my vote goes to Hotline. I just like the way it works, both on PPC and 68k.

Ok, hotline it is then. There is only one little problem, I can't seem to find my cd that i put the hotline versions on. If somebody has it or can give me a link for it, that would help me a lot. thanks.

Carracho has a 68k client. I think it was a Beta.
QuadraJets' server outta have it. Although I'd still perfer HotLine because its easier to use. I wasn't very good at navigating Carracho.

OK, my hotline server is up! Here's the deal:

Only got the 6 gig drive to start. that won't last for long though will definitely have more space before this drive is full.

Here's the address nsa68k.kicks-a s s.net (no spaces, but needed to get the point across. sorry if that offends anybody.

The Newton Stylus Alliance

l/p = 68000

Won't be on any trackers for the time being.

Only have upload folders to start. i'm having some problems testing it out if anybody has some free time can they im me (ajvscreams) so we can talk through the settings incase it's not working. My router blows. I might have to get another hub to get the server outside the firewall/router that might take a week or two.

please IM me though, i can't up or download if i type in the domain, but i can if i stay inside my network, by just typing in the internal ip address on the network i have full useage. if anybody has any ideas, let me know. the port is open for the correct dchp address for the server. so if the problem is the same for everybody then i'll work at it.
