My friends and I were thinking about making the worlds fastest 6100. This is just a quick list. Be sure to add later. I'm unsure of the best videocard or the best internal cdrw. Also correct prices as needed. 6100/66- Basically Free or $5-15 Sonnet Crescendo nubus 500mhz- $300 128MB of ram- $30 18.2GB HD- $160 Ok I just realized this isn't possible with my budget , but that shouldn't stop the richest of you. |

With a G3 card, the HPV card from a 7100 or 8100 will fit, and give a boost in video performance. Nubus video cards will not fit. See http://www.kan.org/6100/cpu.html for details. Macs Liberated: SE (with SuperDrive), IIsi, Quadra 700, 6100, PB 5300, PowerMac 5400

Some site mentioned this, perhaps it was that kan site...the HPV card is in no way "High Performace"...it is merely a "VRAM SIMM depository"However, Sonnet has a nifty card: http://www.sonnettech.com/product/sonata_pro.html "The Sonnet Sonata™ Pro 24 NuBus Video Card (by Village Tronic™) is a wonderful way to enhance your NuBus-based Power Macintosh® with higher video resolutions, more colors, and faster video processing speeds with a pixel rate of up to 200 MHz. Featuring 4MB of onboard VRAM, QuickTime®, and MPEG acceleration, the Sonata Pro 24 offers a tremendous improvement to the general video output capacity of your NuBus-based Power Mac™. It supports up to 24" monitors and delivers standard resolutions up to 1920x1080 in thousands of colors or 1152x870 in millions of colors (full 24-bit). The Sonata Pro 24 delivers performance, resolution and color depth that is comparable or superior to the Apple® PDS AV and high Performance Video (HPV) Cards." -------------------- keeper of the website and beholder of the Quadra/Centris Stick of Justice™ -------------------- |

The HPV card may not be accelerated, but it's better than using the motherboard's RAM based video, which is bullcrap. The accelerated card would be nice, but it wouldn't fit with a G3 card.Macs Liberated: SE (with SuperDrive), IIsi, Quadra 700, 6100, PB 5300, PowerMac 5400 PCs liberated from Windows: 3 |

On Sonnet's G3 upgrade, you can still use a PDS card...although getting that NuBus card will be a bit difficult...They do offer a "Crescendo AV/HPV Card Video Adapter": "The Crescendo AV/HPV Card Video Adapter allows you to preserve your current AV or HPV video capabilities. -------------------- keeper of the website and beholder of the Quadra/Centris Stick of Justice™ --------------------

I thought max ram on a 6100 was only 72 megabytes. I know someone who has a 6100 with a 233Mhz G3 upgrade and 72 megs of ram. Not exactly an ulitmate pizzabox, but still pretty high on the pizzabox chain of command.AnubisTTP 68k Macintosh Liberation Army Macs Liberated:21 |

They made very rare SIMM doublers that allowed up to 4 sticks of ram in 72PIN memory machines.Jeremy "I'll see you on the Dark Side Of The Moon" - Pink Floyd Covert Ops 68k Hacks General Macs Liberated:18 ENTER THROUGH THE GATES |

You can throw whatever 72-pin SIMMs you want into a 6100, as long as they're in pairs. They didn't have SIMMs of greater than 32 MB when the 6100 was made, but 64 MB SIMMs and 128 MB SIMMs work (so I've heard).Macs Liberated: SE (with SuperDrive), IIsi, Quadra 700, 6100, PB 5300, PowerMac 5400 PCs liberated from Windows: 3 |
