What kind of modem should I use on my Quadra 950? I want something fast, but not burdunsome on the system like the GlobalVillage junk things. Is there anything internal? 28.8 to 56? If so, where can I find something like this? I prefer something internal, but external works to as long as I can start surfin the web on my 950.________________ do you like green eggs and ham? |

US Robotics and Supra made some good modems for 68k Macs. They're external, but they don't take up much space, and some Supra modems don't need to be plugged into the wall. You should be able to surf fine.Macs Liberated: SE (with SuperDrive), IIsi, Quadra 700, 6100, PB 5300, PowerMac 5400 PCs liberated from Windows: 3 |

There's really no reason to get anything less than a 56k modem in this day and age, as all analog modems are now on the cheap. Keep in mind that the FCC limits all analog connections to 53k (although this may change since the implementation of fiber-optics as opposed to copper wirign in many locales), figure in line noise and you're looking at a 33Kbps to 52Kbps normal connectivity range, which thusly yields a 4-6.5KBps average connect speed.Oh and the only internal modems available to desktop 68k's are the Com slot 1 modems, which are only an option on a few 68k's. 666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 Regular Disappear! Funny, but I seem to remember there being some internal NuBus modems, back in the early days. Am I wrong? Jes' wonderin'. SpaceBoy PS I've used my old generic external 56k modem with my Quadra 950 (via a pc-to-mac-stype cable adapter), and it's always worked just fine. AppleBASIC FOREVER! On my phone line, 48 is where I usually connect. On my dad's line though, his HP OmniBook has connected at 55. No joke. Occasionally I'll get 49333 or 52. but usually 48 on bad days 45333. ________________ do you like green eggs and ham? |

Let me re-phrase that There aren't any good internal modems for a 68k mac, besides the Com Slot 1 types! 666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 Regular Disappear! |

Umm.... If you mean how does he get his connection speed number thingy. When you put your mouse over the computers transfering data in the taskbar, it tells you speed. I think it also says in his At&t dialup thingy. ________________ do you like green eggs and ham? |
