Hey, I was just wondering if it's just me, or does anyone else miss how the finder used to tell you (when you're emptying the trash) how big the files to be deleted are- i.e. "Are you sure you want to delete these files? They are using 324 megs", or something like that. I'm at the point on my TiBook where I've got about 1/2 gig left free, so I've been deleting a lot of old stuff. It's really annoying to have to 'get info' on my hard drive every time I delete stuff, just to see how much space I've cleared. Worse, if the screenshots on "Think Secret" on accurate, this won't change in 10.2. Grrr!
Thanks,

Some new things in X really bug me too. Why does the battery power get drained from my ibook even when it's sleeping? It didn't do that in 9.x! The finder no longer tells you how much space is left in your hard drive in the new navigation bar. They should have kept those features.

The trash thing bugs me too.... I always found it fun when I was bored to create a bunch of folders and delete them and hear... "The trash contains 10580 items that contain 0k of space, are you sure you want to delete them?" I always thought that was fun.

Really? How Mac OS X-like. Of course, I never use 9.

Yeah, I'd have to agree- I'm all for new tech and OS improvements, but they're changing the fundamental methods that've been working fine for years. Worse, they don't include any way to change them back!
Don't get me wrong about any of these gripes- I love OS X, and I'll never go back (at least not on my TiBook!). I just wish they took little things like this into account when they were designing the thing...

Re: Command+N,+Y, etc.

As an OS < X user, I may be just spouting-off from ignorance (I'm waiting for the Geforce4 Ti card before I buy a 1 Ghz Dualie), but there MUST be some way to hack addition command-code shortcuts. I have had great fun adding my own shortcuts, using Resedit, since my 128k days.

(Please don't tell me OS-X lacks any sort of Resedit or I will let out a terrible moan to be heard on Mac forums everywhere)

Cluelessly,
