I was at a newsstand yesterday looking for Mac magazines (which there are never enough of!) and I noticed something odd about the cover of the current issue of "Troubleshooting Windows". On the cover is a familiar beige-box, a Mac! It's either a 7100 or a Q650, with internal CD-ROM. On top of it is an Apple 14" AV monitor. Both have their respective Apple logos and model names removed. So I'm wondering...dumb mistake, or tongue-in-cheek subversion by a Mac using designer who created the cover image? 666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 Regular Disappear! |

You know, I see this all the time! If you look through mags (computer and non-computer), at least 2/3 times you see a computer, it's either a Mac with a PC screenshot pasted over the desktop, or a wintel box with a Mac screen pasted over the desktop. Really, if you start looking, you'll see this everywhere! I usually see 'em in mags with lots of ads- Newsweek is a good place to start looking. Look at your local library/thrift store- dig around and you'll find millions of old copies of "PC World" and the like- I've seen thousands of these over the years. I'd say that they're just stupid mistakes, but there are so many of them! Must be some sort of inside joke. I've even seen them on TV... one in particular is an older "Ditech insurance" ad, where there's a windows screen with the logo and all, but it's on a Mac monitor and an ADB Mouse II is there as well... Maybe design people just know that Mac hardware is nicer looking then PC hardware.... Would these be considered 'rotten easter eggs'? SpaceBoyAppleBASIC FOREVER! Oh yeah another story: I was in Bed, Bath and Beyond and saw a turntable device used for putting heavy objects on, and on the package it showed a LC 580 being used on it!666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 Regular Disappear! |

Well, the best way to get rid of your Windows computing problems is to get a mac.Wonko The Sane Engineer-in-training 3 Macs Liberated "You can't possibly be a scientist if you mind people thinking that you're a fool."- Wonko The Sane |

Yeah, you see this a lot. The newspaper here has a continuous ad for their computer section showing an ADB Mouse II with the Apple airbrushed over!~Coxy - Leader, Tactical Operations Unit Mayor of NuBus City

Good job, Hiraku! Yeah, it was definitely a Mac, no way to tell whether it was a Quadra 650 or a 7100 without seeing the back panel, though. 666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 Regular Disappear! |

What sort of floppy drive did it have? Quadra/Centris 650s have auto inject floppy drives, whereas PowerMacs have manual inject drives. Thats another way of finding out. -------------------------- Pizzabox LCs RULE!!!!!!! Warrior maclover5 68k Macintosh Liberation Army Number of 68ks Liberated: 6

Yes, but it might be a bit hard to insert a floppy disk into a advertisement... ~Coxy - Leader, Tactical Operations Unit Mayor of NuBus City v3.0

You don't have to. You just have to look at the picture. If the drive looks like the floppy drive in, say, a Colour Classic, then its an auto inject drive, and therefore either a IIvx or IIvi, or a 650. If it looks like a floppy drive in say, a PowerMac 7500, then its a manual inject drive, and therefore a PowerMac 7100. -------------------------- Pizzabox LCs RULE!!!!!!! Wish I actually had the magazine in front of me (you didn't think I actually bought it, did you?) so I could look...'cuz I sure can't remember what kinda floppy it had. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that it was a 7100, though, as they tend to be pretty common.666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 Regular Disappear! |

OMG! You're not going to believe the coincidence, but the new guy sitting in the cubicle next to me has the exact copy of Troubleshooting Windows sitting on his desk! Time to figure out which it is.... 666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 Regular Disappear! Edited by - cinemafia on 04 Jun 2002 12:32:22 |
