I can't get the hard drive in my 145b to work, all the cables are hooked up but I don't hear it start up, could it be the cable or something?

Is it an IBM drive? How big is it? I know i'm probably regurgitating questions i've asked you on AIM, but i have had issues with IBM 80 meg PowerBook SCSI HDs that show no signs of life at all. they don't spin up, nothing sees them.

Could it be "stiction"? The original HD in my old Mac II would sometimes not spin-up. At the time there were articles about "stiction", in which residual goo on the platters would glom on to the heads. Try picking up the unit (powered on) and give it a sharp twist (rotate the PB like you are trying to rotate the platters of the HD).

Good luck, I know how heartbreaking a seemingly dead disk can be,

Could it be "stiction"? . . . Try picking up the unit (powered on) and give it a sharp twist (rotate the PB like you are trying to rotate the platters of the HD).

i've been known to lift up the front of the BabyPB (now dead, btw!<rolleyes>)and let it thump down onto the tabletop to break the drive loose.

at one point i suspected stiction to be the culprit and i unhooked the psu in an external case and hooked a dead drive up to a PC PSU. it started right up and ran for years off the wimpy case PSU after that!

the articles i saw said to (quickly) back up and replace a drive with the stiction problem tho!

jt . .
