i've got a lot of these vram sims, but i've noticed they cause problems as onboard video upgrades. I know they work in apple nubus video cards, but i read somewhere that that's all that they work in. Well, I picked up a performa 476 this past weekend with 2 of the 4*8 sims. i couldn't get the video to display on any combonation of 2 vga monitors with 3 different vga/mac adapters or on the performa plus display (all displays work and adapters work fine). This machine is in absolute mint condition. A long time ago, i picked up a q700 with 4 of the same 4*8 sims and the onboard also didn't work. Some of the symptoms are that the harddisk does not spin unless there is no adapter or monitor plugged in, then it boots fine. i'm just curious if this 4*8 is not the correct vram for these machines. any help would be appreciated. andrew |

ok, i have 2 950s w/ 4 4*8 simms per machine and they run fine. So i don't know what color the crack was i was smoking, but things seem to be ok, i'll keep things updated if anything out of the ordinary pops up. Like little blue men with white hats running out of my classic's disk drive slot. I can never catch those little things....PM 8500 OC g3 420mhz (Daisy) (3) Quadra 950's Quadra 650 Performa 476 PB 165 Classic Newton 130 Edited by - thelip on 22 May 2002 18:00:37 |

Yes, the sixty-eight-pin 4*8 video RAM SIMM is completely compatible with all 68ks which have the 68-pin VRAM slot. That is definitely not your problem. Try replacing the PRAM battery (that little 3.6v bugger on the mobo) and see if that helps...-------------------- keeper of the website and beholder of the Quadra/Centris Stick of Justice™ -------------------- |
