Here's an auction for an '040 card for the Mac IIsi:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2023315391
It looks cool, but would it also work in a Mac SE/30? I'm a bit confused about the compatibility between the /30 and the IIsi. Any info?
Thanks a bunch!

i'm pretty sure it won't (without a whole lot of hacking at least). that looks like it is a NuBus connector (less pins than the pds connector) so i don't know how well it would work. the IIsi's Adapter MIGHT work in the SE/30, especially if you used IIsi ROMs in the /30. i think the old ExpanSE (spelling?) NuBus expansion chassis came in revs for the SE/30.

there are timing issues complicating the interchange of cards between the si and the /30, but i don't think their pinout comparisons are as funky as the well documented differences between the SE/30 and IIci PDS implementations.

does anybody have the pinouts for the IIsi PDS?

did that make things better or worse?

Hmmm. That's some good info. I'm about to head home and see if the NuBus adapter I pulled from the IIsi at the Goodwill fits in the /30. If so, with some inventive internal hacking, I just might be able to fit a small NuBus card inside the /30, which would be really cool. The big problems that I see involve the adapter's NuBus slot being at a 90-degree angle, and (from what I can tell) pointing towards the front of the /30. This last thing will make it extra hard to use any NuBus card that has cables running from it- video, ethernet, etc. However, something like that 040 card just might work- compatibility issues aside.
Thanks again from the tips!

nail down the pinouts and timing signals before you power anything up!

the eurocard connectors should be the same for the PDS slots but that doesn't mean the interfaces are anywhere near being the same thing!

Yeah, I guess you're right. I guess I was deluding myself into thinking that I could just pop the board in there and fire it up, but I can see it's gonna take a little more work then that. Thanks for the cautionary warning!
