Just a quick note to announce my newly adopted child, Quax. Quax is a quadra 950, rescued from a warehouse of Apple stuff. He served many faithful years for our country as a fine NASA workstation, before finally getting slapped with the green sticker of death (NASA excess property tag.) Remnants of his former career abound, as aliases to missing software in the Apple Menu. Mosaic Telnet, Mosaic browser, eXcel? X11 server, and other stuff. He was obviously living in a very UNIX environment. Unfortunately the software has all been removed. He was once a member of msfc.nasa.gov, but now, he's mine! Quax just completed his 24 hour burn, after installing three hard drives and 130 some odd megs of RAM. Next, I hope to get a cdrom working, and install A/UX 3.01 on him (hence the funny name ) Lucky am I, to live in NASA primary R&D town...many wicked machines lying in the corners in this 'burg. I actually bought 4 q950s. I have many spare parts for this venerable machine. I don't really want to get rid of them, they are my spares to keep Quax running forever. I don't want to be greedy though. If you just HAVE to have a part (or maybe a whole machine) e-mail me and I might consider letting go of some of this stash. Apple. UNIX. A/UX rocked. |

Welcome to the MLA!!! I didn't know NASA let their computers go so easily. What town do you live in/near where all these macs are located?_________________ HotLineServer: scchicago.dynodns.net Website: http://scchicago.dynodns.net MyForumOnDelphi: http://forums.delphiforums.com/scchicago NOTE:HL AND HTTP SERVER ARE ONLY AVAILIBLE WHEN I'M ONLINE AIM:scchicago87 Yahoo!IM:scchicago |

Huntsville, Alabama, home of the Marshall Space Flight Center. Actually, almost every 68k mac available used comes out of MSFC. The school system I think still uses thier Apple //'s but NASA has excessed pretty much all thier 68kmacs, (not ultra) sparcs, and HP 68k and early pa-risc equipment. whozatmac Quadra 950 - quax 6100/66 - everlast 4400 - fitter_happier 5215CD - pos 128k, M00001 - his name is macintosh, just macintosh Apple. UNIX. A/UX rocked.

i was waiting around for marchie to chime in with: WOW! a PAIR of pairs of 950's, cuz they always seem to come in twos!welcome aboard and congrats, nice haul! i just got a portable from Florida in the mail that has a little aluminum NASA inventory control tag on it! it still has some software on it, but i think it's from the previous owner. is there any way to find out what the machines used to do for NASA from the control number/bar code tag? jt ™. .

I live nowhere near there. I'd never be able to get down there just to go hunting for 68ks. Keep that Quadra running. Those are nice machines! Anyone know if I can use the RGB display from my LC II on a Quadra?_________________ HotLineServer: scchicago.dynodns.net Website: http://scchicago.dynodns.net MyForumOnDelphi: http://forums.delphiforums.com/scchicago NOTE:HL AND HTTP SERVER ARE ONLY AVAILIBLE WHEN I'M ONLINE AIM:scchicago87 Yahoo!IM:scchicago |

WOAH!!! THEY HAVE MODEL NUMBERS!!! All of the early LCs used the same monitor didn't they? As for the model Quadra, I don't know yet. I don't wanna buy one without making ABSOLUTE SURE that the "Apple 12" RGB Display" that I have already WILL work._________________ HotLineServer: scchicago.dynodns.net Website: http://scchicago.dynodns.net MyForumOnDelphi: http://forums.delphiforums.com/scchicago NOTE:HL AND HTTP SERVER ARE ONLY AVAILIBLE WHEN I'M ONLINE AIM:scchicago87 Yahoo!IM:scchicago |

No. Is it a 640x480 monitor? If so, then it will absolutely work. If its 512x384, then I believe that it does...~Coxy - Leader, Tactical Operations Unit Mayor of NuBus City

The RGB display for the LCII is 640x480 (67hz, up to 32 bit color), and it should work with pretty much any mac (or pc with the right adapter). My 1710 fried itself this last weekend and I hooked up the display from my LCII (being upgraded to quadra 605 status) to my 7300 until I could get the 1710 repaired or replaced (most likely replaced). The 1710 was 5 years old when it finally bought it. Not bad considering the quality problems with the 1710. But then the old Performa RGB display is 10 and counting and is still working fine. Go figure... Wasn't the 12" that shipped with the LC II only capable of 512x384 @ 16-bit color... -------------------- keeper of the website and beholder of the Quadra/Centris Stick of Justice™ -------------------- |

There was a "Macintosh 12 RGB Display" and then there were "Apple Performa" and "Apple Performa Plus" displays which were also available. Okay my bad...I looked it up in Apple's tech library. I have the Performa Plus which (along with the Performa) is a 640x480 display. The Macintosh 12 RGB Display is 512x384. As far as color depth, I don't think the monitors themselves have a restriction, but the LCII could only do 16 bit at 512x384 (with the vram upgrade) or 8bit at 640x480.
