I bought this today at the local Salvation Army. It had everything except the CD Caddy! I got it for $10. Does anyone know if I can just use any old caddy, or if I have to buy an official Apple one._________________

i just pulled the 1x apple external out of a box and the caddy i use seems generic, i don't think even apple would stoop to trying to mod a cd caddy! erm . . . . ? . ! . . probably wouldn't stoo . . .whatever! Philips woulda REAMED those idiots in cupertino if they'd messed with the spec. on a CD-ROM mechanism! they're sticking it to the motion picture association or the ria or some other copyright gestapo outfit for messing with CD or DVD or something like that! *yay! Philips* just be careful not to void your warranty!  jt  ™. .

I don't think it HAS a warranty. The salvation army only sells donated stuff. This drive is so old (10 years). It was manufactured in June 1992. The warranty must be void by now.So, I guess I should go ahead and buy the generic one.
US$4 for the generic VS. US$13 for Apple. _________________

I found one for $4 plus shipping at some website. Unless yours is Official Apple Cine._________________

i'd say so!  the warranty comment was a joke!  jt ™. . p.s. you probably shouldn't even take me seriously about technical crap either!

Well I have that generic caddy coming in the mail. Don't know exactly when it'll be here. It'll be cool to play some of those old Mac games on a real mac rather than the emulated one! Old games like Gizmos and Gadgets! One of my childhood favorites!_________________
