I noticed a very disturbing pattern of weirdness with networking, system 7.5.x, and Stuffit. When I first got my 660A/V running system 7.5.3, I was able to connect it via ethernet to my ibook twice. After the first time I connected it, I tried to unstuff the files that I put on the Quadra but found that Stuffit wasn't working. I was able to connect them again and put a new copy of Stuffit on it, but the third time I tried, I got an error telling me that ethernet wasn't working and that only Localtalk was accessible. The same thing happened to my new Duo 280c running 7.5 recently, and I don't know why. The weirdest thing is that some time after connecting to my Quadra, Stuffit on the ibook stopped working.
Can anyone explain this?

Alladdin has this thing happening where when you launch the application, it does a quick search of shared applications and if it finds another copy (or copies) of Stuffit, it disables it. The idea (I guess) is that you can only have one registered copy of Stuffit on a network. The easiest 'fix' is when setting up AppleTalk, you turn filesharing on, but keep program linking off. You'll have to either trash Stuffit prefs, or reinstall on all the affected Macs.

I re-installed Stuffit on all the macs and now it works fine. I still have the networking problem, though. Is it a 7.5.x thing or what?

Try switching the port back to Ethernet: the problem generally occurs when you boot up without Ethernet being plugged in.

I've never had a problem with Aladdin Expander on my AppleTalk network with my LC and LC II
