The ones I saw are gone now and the Tech dept. says they lease all of their Macs now. He may be able to get me a Power Mac 5400 but thats not a 68k but he did say that if he found a stash of old Macs he'd let me know but that'll probably not happen. Oh well.

yeah perform the last rites on some dead hardware
but yeah i'd love to ask the tech department if they work but i know they do... this year they've set up a school-wide LAN of iMacs, old G3 Power macs, and new G4's and we didnt have that in the past... I'm just glad that I got a response... least he offered to help me if they find some old 68k's. (not to mention i got a Power Mac 5400 out of the deal with OS 9.2 on it)

I'd take 9.2 off it if I were you... it must be slow on a 5400!

I recommend 8.6 for a Pre-G3. It runs like a dream on my sister's 6500/275. Of course that's a smidge faster than the 5400/180 MHz (?).

Why would you want to run 9.2 on a non-G3 anyways? Its a release only for Mac OS X - ready systems (All Apple G3s except original PB G3). There are ways to install it on a legacy system , but all it does, really, is enhance the Classic mode in Mac OS X...I would go so far as to say that it would probably harm more than hurt your system...compatibility wise....

As far as i'm aware, 9.2 won't run on anything less than a G3. How much ram has it got? If its got at least 48, then you need 9.1. Modern and stable. I've run 8.6 on my PowerBook 1400, and its something i never wish to do again. Truely the Windows 98 of Mac OS versions...

There's some kind of way to install 9.2 on a pre-G3. You mess around (moving/renaming, etc) some installer files or the like. I saw it on the MAF.

I wish I had your connections...

My town is a PC town. All the schools use Windows.
All the libraries use Windows!
Almost everybody uses Windows!
Most of them have never even heard of Linux!
NOT ONE MAC! In public buildings that is.

There are only two people I know that own Macintosh!
And one of them also has a PC with Windows!
