Its not too bad, IMHO, but it would look better if they replaced that stupid tilt stand with feets...

OMG: I just saw it!
OK, a plain, simple, rugged CRT Mac for schools -- I suppose it's alright. Been a while since they released an education Mac!

wow! 17" screen . . . FINALLY!!!!! <rolleyes>

of course 18" is now pretty much standard on PC's so it's only downgraded from a windows base system by the same amount as the bondi's were! BLEH!

White is an INCREDIBLY stupid choice of color for a K-12 machine!

as far as the looks go, eh! vast improvement over the PPC all-in-ones or 5XX boxes, but it looks like some huge sugar coated something i can't quite put my finger on!

flat screen looks really bad on it and what's with the big bullseye on its @$$ end?

i don't like it much, but it didn't make me wanna toss my cookies!

does it look like a freakin' iPaq?

blah!

If that ting on the back is a cooling turbine, then that is SERIOUSLY COOL!

back from a fritter foray, what do you guys think of this security-base idea? the thing is growing on me! at least it doesn't look like a freakin' LAMP!
quote:

the configuration of the eMac seems adequate, at least the screen's only one inch smaller than a standard windows config, the 15" BondiMac was introduced when 17" was the standard. :-/

i like that it's the same size as the the Bondis, when i read that, i forgave the styling tradeoffs.

the point about the floppyless faux-pax could easily be fixed with one (an LS-120 type hybrid would be better) built into a bolt down swivel base. it'd be very slick if provisions for power/network/POTS whatever were build into the bottom of the eMac to mate with such a security/utility/removable media base. if the base could hook up to conduit (or an electrical box) above or below the table surface, it'd eliminate cable clutter entirely and make pulling machines in and out of a K-12 lab a snap for support and improbable for the little basta . . . erm? . . kids! ;)

i love the blank white page for crayola/marker/tagger input, now that's STUPID! ::)

now that i've thought about it, it's not too bad and better than i'd expected from the apple of late!

and it's an order of magnitude less revolting looking than the PPC all-in-ones the last time Apple did K-12! ;)

jt

=8-}

the thing in the back doesn't look like a turbine, but a large LOW SPEED blower (on a variable speed thermostatic control circuit) would be perfect in a packed K-12 lab!

jt . .

p.s. actually, if you took all the crud on the bottom of the front bezel that makes it asymmetrical, relocated it a bigger swivel-base and made the monitor pivot about an angled turbine-ring/swivel moved closer to the balance point at the bottom of the CRT . . . . . . .

Wow. I just looked into the new PowerBooks and the eMac- and I'm really impressed!
The eMac is just what Apple's been needing- a desktop equiv. to the iBook. I know, the iBook started out as a portable iMac, but I think that the iBook has really departed from it's roots (big fruit-colored clams) and taken on it's own life. I'm glad to see a desktop aimed at the edu sector- here's hoping that Apple can get big edu purchases (like they have with Maine) for the eMac. I think the specs are dead-on: perfect ballance between mucho power and low cost. These things are really cheap! If you compare one to the top-end iMac of just last year, the eMac is much more powerful, and about half the price. I just don't want to be around my sister when she sees it- she just bought a 700 mHz G3 iMac about 6 months ago. Boy, is she gonna be pissed...

Me too. I think the iMac looks a lot better. White?!?!?
Macs don't look that good in white. Whatever happened to that classic grey? All the 68ks came in grey, as well as the early PPCs.

Hmm, I just noticed how everything in my room is colour coordinated: iMac, 950, 7200, HP inket, HP LaserJet, even the HP hub and HP scanner! Only the old, yellowing 13" Apple screen is off.

I really like the eMac...and I have two relatives who are teachers, so getting one wouldn't be a problem...now if only I had $1,000 laying around...
