Your machine is actually a Macintosh LC 575, but with a different software bundle. The specs are:

33 Mhz 68LC040 (no FPU, although you can replace the processor with a full '040 and get an FPU)
4 megs of ram onboard, upgradable to 36 meg via a 32 meg 72 pin SIMM
Comes with an 80-160 meg SCSI HD, I reccommend you stick in something better
2x AppleCD 300i+ CD ROM (tray loading
512k of VRAM, upgradable to 1 meg. The standard 512k will give you 256 colours on the internal 14" Sony Trinitron, although if you bump it up to a full meg, you'll get 16 bit (Thousands of colours) colour.

BTW: Although this machine does look identical to the LC/Performa 58x series machines, the logic boards are not interchangable. Because the 58x series had more in common with the Macintosh LC 630, you would have to replace a lot of the guts inside before you could just slide the board in.

Hope this helps, and as the moderator of this forum, i am going to delete the duplicate.

Have fun!

thanks for the info... the only problem with replacing the hd in the 578 is that my sister still uses it for her homework... my parents have been looking into iMacs for a year or so but until they get one gutting the Performa is out of the question... thanks for the info though because as soon as the opportunity presents itself im fixing it up... and do you know of any site where i could get a cheap replacement monitor?

I wouldn't have any idea i'm sorry, as i've never looked into it.

BTW: One thing i forgot to tell you is that you can run version of Mac OS up to 8.1 on there. Just make sure you have enough RAM.

Exactly! just pop off the little plastic cover, slide out the drive, disconnect the cable, and transfer the sled to the new drive!

Too bad you need to switch slider mounts to the new drive... but at least it accepts IDE!

No, it doesn't, actually, since it's a 575, not 580...

Yeah. Remember what i was saying before about how the LC/Performa 580 is based on the LC630? The 575 is pretty much a LC520/MicroQuadra hybrid.

wow... thanks for the info. I guess now i'll hit up eBay and try to find some new parts for Optimus The 578. So if I follow those instructions from ~Coxy I should be able to easily switch HD's?

Well, yes. Any SCSI hard drive should work, you'll just need to reformat it.

actually guys, i just talked to my dad about what'll happen to Optimus The 578 when it gets replaced... i said something about a new hard drive and evidently the hd's been replaced and the RAM's been upgraded... im not sure what to but evidently i deleted half of the system folder back in 5th grade so it had to be taken in and while it was in they upgraded it quite a bit... i think they even put in a 4x cd-rom but im not sure.
