The Q800 is a very cool machine. I've got a pretty nice setup, too. I think so anyway. 36 megs / 2 gigs / 2x cd / (cheap) subwoofer for mpegdec. But man oh man do I hate the thing! It is harder than you could imagine to attach the cables to anything in the lower 3 drive bays (that's anything besides a CD drive) and the process for taking out the motherboard to install ram is quite bothersome. It's impossible to get it back in position. The case just refuses to go back on, too! That's the worst part because you have to do it after struggling with one of those other two things! I'm bothered!

I totally understand when I had a Q800 it was hell.

I feel your pain.... I have a Q800, and I find myself opening it all the time to fix the loose powermac (EEEEK!) upgrade card, and I can never get the cover on right. I haven't had to worry about pulling the mobo, cause it has a decent amount of ram (72 megs), but yes, it is a real pain getting to the scsi/power connections in the lower drive bays!

I know how you feel, too. I've only taken my Q840-av's mobo out once for a RAM upgrade, and I'm not looking forward to having to do it again to max out the VRAM. UGGGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!

And yes, the stupid case does refuse to go back at first.

At least 950 owners only have to remove their SCSI drives and the PSU to get full mobo access... but to install NuBus cards you only need to open the door!
