With my expierience wit PCs, well, they've played dead on me before.
I thought my 486 was a gonner once, but I kept it, and after a while (months) I plugged it back in and IT WORKED!!!

The reason I brought this up is because my MacLC just stopped working today about 10:00 EDT. Is there any chance, you think that it will start working again later?

It's playing dead, of course

Before you tell us any of the syptoms, first replace the PRAM battery. I can almost guaruntee that'll cure whatever ailes the LC.

firstly I feel a little traumatized. That was the best mac I owned, and I liked to play the games I had installed on it.

allright, I started it earlier today to play some chess, Chessmaster 3000, and when I was finished I shut it down the usual way.
special-->shutdown

and when I went back later that evening...
I powered it back up...
blank screen for 5min before, I shut it off...
very unusual, no startup sound or anything!!!
Usually I get a startup ping and then wait about 2min or so.

I don't believe it has ever had a PRAM battery as long as I have had it.

As I said earlier an x86 PC that I have around here played dead on me for a while and then came back to life for some reason. I'm hoping my MacLC will do the same. All I have besides that LC is my SE. The SE with dual-floppies!!

Where can I get a PRAM battery anyway?
I really have no clue where to obtain one!

hmmm, that simple, huh?
There's a Radio Shack in town!!
a couple of miles off.
Is there a special kind that I need for an LC or are they all the same?

Most are the same - the LC needs a 3.6v half-AA - the originals are lithium nonrechargables. Some other macs use 4.5v bigsquareboxy ones, but not the pizzabox LCs :D

To quote cimemafia, a new PRAM battery is almost a cure-all...

I actually, never replaced the PRAM battery. That all happened in one night.

An original LC pizzabox does not require a PRAM battery at all.

Well that will teach you. You have to feed them batteries every once in awhile or they will play possum on you. Finicky little burgers they are. :)

Its always ran fine without a PRAM battery. I see no need to go out ang get one now, if it runs fine without it.
