I might be getting one of those empty iMac cases that Apple likes to farm out to retailers, and i was thinking, "why don't i hack something into it?". I then thought of my LCII. What i'm thinking of doing is mounting my LCII mobo and power supply in the area an iMac's logic board would normally go, and mounting an old Apple display in the display housing in the iMac case. The result? A flower power iMac LC II. What Apple display would you reccommend? I'm thinking that a 12" RGB shouldn't be too hard to implement without having to take the display fully apart. So, what do you think? -------------------------- Pizzabox LCs RULE!!!!!!! I had the same idea, only I was going to use my LC 475 Mobo and the CRT from my Apple MultiScan 15". Too bad I don't have any free iMac cases laying around... 666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 Regular Disappear! |

UPDATE:Talked to my parents. PAF gives me a rating of 10/10 so far for the iMac LC II. Haven't yet got the case or the monitor yet though. or take it both ways! use an LC/IIe and an LC475 board on an A/B KVM switch! if your dad will spring for the one i use you could also wire the third set out the side! (or both extra sets if you can't fit both mobos in it!) that way it's a luggable microquadra/020/6502 hack! is there a DOS compatability card for the microq?jt ™. .

The idea of the 15" crt really sounds better to me. You're going to have 3 inches of diagonal space left if you put that 12" display in there. I guess you could stick the whole monitor in, or something, if it would fit (which I don't think it would) but then you'd have this big rectangle of beige around the monitor. and how the heck am i going to fit all that in? The graphics card alone woould be too tall for the motherboard/drive compartment, plus there's the fact that the mobo would probably be too big. Also, it can't run System 6. -------------------------- Pizzabox LCs RULE!!!!!!! Warrior maclover5 68k Macintosh Liberation Army Number of 68ks Liberated: 6 |

sounds like a great idea for a jet black duplex IIci cube hack tho! somebody could have it run the mac emulator that cine and the boys are playing with and linux too! black keyboards and mice are a LOT easier to come by in the PC world!jt ™. .

You can too run System 6 on a NeXT! vMac runs on NeXTstep/OpenStep, and there is a Quix Daydream box with Mac ROMs in it that lets NeXT black hardware run the Mac OS natively.Macs Liberated: SE, IIsi, Quadra 700, 6100, PB 5300, PowerMac 5400 PCs liberated from Windows: 3 |

Yeah, i know. But what i was sayin before is that there's no way in hell i'll be able to fit in a Pentium mobo, complete with graphics card. -------------------------- Pizzabox LCs RULE!!!!!!! Warrior maclover5 68k Macintosh Liberation Army Number of 68ks Liberated: 6 |

It can probably be done. I was just thinking that you could use a PC motherboard and one of those PCI risers from 5400/5500 PowerMacs. My PPC 5400 has a USB card that is less than an inch above the motherboard, and I've heard of people installing Voodoo cards in these Macs.If you think such hacks are impossible, see the Super Cube that somebody made from an old NeXT cube case. It's at <http://www.pheatonforums.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=137&postdays=0&postorder=&start=0>. Someday when I have the time, I'll paint my 5400 black and make an all-in-one NeXT out of it. I have a black keyboard!!!! and a black PC, it's an "Acer Aspire"it's a Pentium(equivalent) 120MHz w/ 48MB of RAM and a 1.6 Gb HDD... it has an ATI mach64 video card.. and some sort of sound I've never hear of... would OpenStep work on that? PSST! you could get a mobo with onboard video (looks at his Dell OptiPlex whose MOBO is OBVIOUSLY too big...) Official 68k videographer |
