Hey, I was just over at the local Goodwill (place of endless treasures!), where they have a Mac IIci for only seven bucks! My IIci expierence is nill, so I'm not sure if it's a good buy- it seemed to have an 80 meg HDD, all the RAM slots were filled, and it had a "MAC IIci CACHE CARD" in the cache slot. The speaker-holder-thingie was loose and flopping around the inside of the case, and the case itself was pretty chipped up. If ever there was a 68k in need of liberation, huh? I know what you're thinking- "Why the hell didn't you just buy it?!?", and I don't have an answer. I'll head back after work and see if it's still there... but I sure wouldn't mind any suggestions/info/warnings... Thanks, SpaceBoyAppleBASIC FOREVER! I just love IIci's. They're very expandable, you have so many options with them. You can drop a 50MHz 030, a 33MHz 040 or even a 66MHz or 100MHz (if you can find one) PPC in them, then just max them out at 128MB of RAM, put in a JackHammer Nubus card, an 18GB ultra-wide SCSI drive...and...and... 666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 Regular Disappear! |

Short Answer:Yes, Absobloodylutely! Long answer: I just got a IIci (in VERY good condition for it's age) and I think, from my initial experience, they rock :). I have a NuBus Ethernet card in it and an Apple Mac II Monochrome Video card in it and it seems to be a very swift and cool machine. I shoe-horned a 1GB Quantum Fireball SCSI disk into it and it runs real smooth. I'm trying to figure out how to install A/UX but am a haris breadth from giving up (I don't seem to get on too get on very well with UNIX ) and installing 7.1.3 on it instead. -- Mark Benson Visit FlatPackMacs Online http://fpm.gotdns.com We have feets Macs Liberated = 9 |

Hmmm...do you mean 7.5.3? I do believe 7.1 ended at 7.1.2 (a release only for the x100 Power Macs)

Hmmm, I guess I forgot to post the end of the story! I went back, hoping to pick it up, but it was already gone. I checked yesterday, and there was a IIsi, which I would've bought for the ROM chips (for my SE/30 project), but sadly the ROM chip was gone. Grrrraaagh!!! There was also a severely beat-up PowerMac 6100, but they were asking $50 for it, and it'd already been canabalized, so I passed on it. I'm gonna go back and see if anything new's been put out... today it "1/2 price on everything!" day! Oh, sweet, sweet joy!
