I'm curious as to who run's only Mac hardware, and who runs more than that.

Personally, I have a 9500 w/ YellowDog Linux, A SPARC IPC station running Sun OS 2.5.1, the G4 w/ OS X, and the Q950 with A/UX as soon asI can get it installed....

And hopefully a m68k system too, but we'll see.

So far, all I've got that might count is my PowerBook G4 with OS X, although I've not really tinkered with the command line... yet. One of these days I'm gonna get my Quadra 950 running some flavor of *NIX, just so I can tinker with it and not fear that I'm going to loose anything precious.
That's the idea, at least...
Oh, and I've got an (ancient!) DEC Rainbow system in storage (my sister's garage). It was a really amazing machine (circa 1981, if I remember right...) that had both an intel 8086 for running Microsoft's new-fangled 'DOS' software, and a Zilog Z-80 (the same chip that was in the Kaypro's, TRS-80's, etc.) for running the much more established CP/M (Control Program for Microcomputers!), which at the time had a massive lead over the fledgling IBM PC. It has a 30 pound, shoebox-sized internal hard drive, and I think that there's some sort of UNIX system on there. Really, I should dig the thing up and play with it some time...
Thanks,
SpaceBoy

OS X on my ibook and slowly learning the command line. I tried to install Slackware or Red Hat on my PCs many times without success. Hopefully I will get it right next time I try.

OS X command line: I need to use it because there's no GUI version of Hugs for OS X yet.

I have an SE/30 and a PowerBook 540C running NetBSD 1.5, Installed MkLinux on my PowerBook 1400C/133, but that's rather useless without any network connection, so that one's now back to Mac OS 8.1, and two SiliconGraphics Indy workstations running IRIX 6.2.

In the beginning there was data. The data was without form and null, and darkness was upon the face of the console; and the Spirit of IBM was moving over the face of the market. And DEC said, "Let there be registers;" and there were registers. And DEC saw that they carried; and DEC separated the data from the instructions. DEC called the data Stack, and the instructions they called Code. And there was evening and there was morning, one interrupt

Once I can get a copy of A/UX I'm gonna install it on my LC II!
With a whopping 80MB HD! (big enough?)
and 10MB RAM!!! (not enough?)

A/UX will not run on an LC II. I posted a compatibility list somewhere in the forums, I think it's in the first UNIX on 68k thread.

Heh i remember the first night i had X, i had just installed it, and a friend wanted me to go and fix a problem on his windohze PeeeCeee. All of a sudden Windows 98 felt so clunky and outdated, compared to my sleek OS X setup...

:D. Although I don't go much for windows in general, the old windows UI - like 98 has - would go 3rd place for me, behing x and platinum - don't know which of those two is best quite yet... as for completeness, all three are there, and are usable. Bits of windows annoy me, but I can deal with them.

The feeling I get with KDE is that it's all not quite finished! prefs don't all work everywhere they should, and the attention given to UIs seems a little misguided.

(ok, Platinum comes first still, I've decided :D

My list of GUIs is as follows:

3. Classic MacOS Platinum
2. Mac OS X Aqua
1. NeXTSTEP/OpenStep

If you look at Windoze 95/98, it may have a somewhat decent GUI, but it stole it from NeXTSTEP! Look at the "X" close box and the window-shaped minimize box! Look at the scrollbar whose size changes depending on the length of the document! It was all in NeXTSTEP in 1988, a full seven years before Windoze 95. BILL GATES IS A GUI-STEALING THIEF!

OS X still needs a Shelf, an animation in which the login box disappears after you've typed in your login and password, the PgUp/PgDn buttons in the scrollbar, and the cool NeXT menus that you can move anywhere and tear off from the main menu.

My NeXT page for the MLA is coming soon.
