Just thought I'd mention that I just upgraded an hour or two ago, and no problems at all! Plus, my PPP connection hasn't dropped once yet- this was a really, really annoying problem that I'd been blaming on Earthlink, but I now believe it was some sort of OS-level problem. The only downside to this is that (as I understand it), this PPP bug was actually fixed by that young (former) member of the Darwin open-source, who was kicked out after Apple learned about his age. I understand that, from a legal perspective, Apple might have been worried about possible liability, but I feel bad that they're now going to reap the (public-relations) benifits of his work. This strikes me as wrong, somehow, and very much against the 'feel-good' vibe that I usually get from Apple.

The modem freeze bug is fixed! No more freezes when I try to connect! I've left the iMac on for three days without any sort of crash or freeze!

UGH. I used my imac and osx for near a YEAR with problems from that bug... and I go get ADSL and no longer come across it - one week later it's FIXED!
ARGH!

Mind, it's all good for all :). Just funky timing on apples part!

Well, I just had the "The PPP connection was lost because the other side was not responding" message (GRRR!), but I'm quite sure that it was caused by the call-waiting beep, as my Mom called a few secs later on my cell, asking if I was out of the house.
So far, no random dis-connects!

Well, just thought I'd mention that I've gotten the random PPP disconnects several times both last night and this morning- and I don't think anyone was calling and triggering the "Call Waiting" beep...
This was the rapid progression of emotions I went through:

Jes' a lil note about osx and os9...

I tried OS9 for nearly 2 days on the weekend - oh it was lovely, with the lil extra speed, and platinumy look, etc etc etc (insert "yes dana we know what you're like with platinum...").

Then IRC crashed twice, even after a fresh reboot - I said "bugger this!" and booted back into X.

mmmmmm stable!

dana (troubleshooting...?)

I tell you what: OS X is made for the iMacs -- booting into 9 is a culture shock for me.
