Due to some over-exuberant e-baying I'm suddenly swamped with 10 Base-T ethernet hubs.I've got a Synoptics 2800 12 port hub and a 2803 16 porter spare... and will probably end up with another 16 porter in a week or so. I'm looking for around A$60 each (that's US$30) or trades for interesting items - particularly SCSI hard drives. These babies aren't overly light, so anyone outside Australia is going to get the shaft on postage. Cheers! Damn...I could really use one, too. Well, I do have two SCSI hard drives that I don't immediately need. The shipping might be too much though.666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 Regular Disappear! |

sounds to me like the MLA could use a connection with some small import /export outfit that handles extra packages in containerized air freight. every once in a while exchanges of big lots of (bulky) international trade goods would be fun! jt ™. .

Yep, I'm in L.A. I have two 7,200 RPM 50-pin SCSI HD's, one is 4GB and one is 2GB, that I don't really need. Neither of them will auto-mount, though, so you can't use them as boot drives, but otherwise they're great for storage (and I can fill them up with just about anything you'd want).666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 Regular Disappear! |

Ouch! that postage is going to sting. You have got me interested though, due to a severe lack of hard drive space at this end. What exactly are you proposing as a trade? assuming we each cover postage from our ends. Cheers! CC PS Oh! just remembered... my girlfriend is going to be in LA for a couple of days in mid May... can you wait that long? Sure, no problem. As for the trade, I have two SCSI hard drives, both are 7,200 rpm, 50-pin drives. One is IBM and is 4GB and the other is Seagate and 2GB. I have a lot of software that I could fill them up with, just let me know if there's anything you need. You can also take a look at my Duo Parts thread to see if there's anything in there you might want, or I might have other stuff you might need (just let me know!). 666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 Regular Disappear! |

Alright Flash! So just to be clear, I guess Cine gets a 16 porter being the earlybird. Flash, I'm still waitiing for the other 16er to turn up, but I'm confident it will. I can promise you that conditionally, or deliver the 12 porter immediately. They are both tested and working fine. Do I have an offer on the 12 porter? Also, if there's demand, I may be able to source 2 or 3 more 16ers for the same price. Lemme know trendsetters! Cheers! I really don't need more than about 8 ports at the most, but I guess 16 is cool! I can always use it for a LAN party! 666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 Regular Disappear! |

The 16 port also has the rack-mount kit and expansion cable... so you can always plug another hub in when your orchard expands... Cheers! Well, kind of... I've got the powerbase set up running IP Netrouter, feeding another 16 port hub. It hasn't had a chance to get dusty yet though. Eventually I'd like a 68k router... but I have a shortage of Nubus ethernet cards right now (read... none!). Also, Netrouter's kind of expensive, and the demo period expires soon... maybe I'll eventually figure out how to get A/UX set up to do this on one of the Quadras... or some form of Linux... Time to teach the old dogs (thats me and the Quadras) some new tricks I think! Cheers! Yeah. I've played around with software routers a little bit, but they were always a lot more complicated then I needed. On the other end of the spectrum, I helped my girlfriend's dad set up a mixed-platform LAN (a Mac and a PC upstairs, and a Mac downstairs), all routed into a cable modem. We went to a local PC parts shop and bought an 8-port router/hub for about $40, and it's completly fool-proof. You just plug each computer in, and the router gives each one its own IP address (no more paying for each one!) and talks to the cable modem. To be honest, I don't really need one of these gizmos at the moment (no broadband... sob), but I'm sure I will sometime in the (hopefully near!) future. Thanks, SpaceBoyAppleBASIC FOREVER! Hey Cine!Little Miss Luddite is heading off to the US on May 23rd. She's stopping off in LA for maybe a day or 2 then heading to NYC. She's willing to take your hub along for the ride... so I guess we ought to figure out some kind of a rendezvous. Cheers! CC PS. Further to the discussions on routers above... does anyone here have experience setting up the 68k version of IPNetrouter? specifically on a Quadra 700... but any general pointers I could get would be mucho appreciated! Very cool! I'll have to send you an email with my address and cell phone number. So, what do you want on your drives? I was just using them the other day to make sure they're good. 666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 Regular Disappear! |

Update!Cine, we have a slight change of plans. LML is now flying straight on to NYC with a stopover of only a couple of hours in LA. So... as she's not too keen to be carrying this thing around with her for 3 weeks, I suggest I wrap it up well and get her to drop it into a post office at the airport. Are you comfortable with sending the drives to Rhode Island (where she'll be hanging for most of the time)? I know its going to add a bit to the cost of the whole operation...not to mention potential destruction or our goodies at the hands of psychotic postal workers... but at least it'll be cheaper than freighting internationally. Let me know what you think. Cheers!
