OK, this is not quite about the 68K processor, but I want to mention it because it does involve a 68K Powerbook.I have a Powerbook 520c (36MB/320MB/33Mhz). Last night, I was talking with Graphite Goodness from the Vintage Mac forum at MacAddict, specificly about this thread: http://www.macaddict.com/forums/Forum5/HTML/001179.html After talking with him, a few e-mails later, I have bought his 100 Mhz PowerPC Upgrade for the 500 series. The best part is the price of $100 plus whatever for shipping. Graphite Goodness, if you are reading this, THANK YOU! ------------------ Captain Z - Sniper 68K Macintosh Liberation Army 17 68K Macs Liberated Edited by - Captain Z on 07 Nov 2001 07:57:38 |

Good luck... those things are near impossible to find these days. Especially if you can find the 187Mhz upgrade. ------------------ Captain Z - Sniper 68K Macintosh Liberation Army 17 68K Macs Liberated |

PS does breaking apart a Apple IIc, taking the motherboard, and gluing it onto a scanner (boy, it looks cool!) count as a "liberation"?? That would be sick anyway, please respond to my topic "Tricking out a powerbook 160" I really need help deciding what to do with it! lemmmings!!! TITO

No, I don't believe that thier are any sort of PowerPC upgrades for the original 1xx series. I think this is what is out thier: - Powerbook 140, logicboard upgrade to 170 (16 to 25MHz) - Powerbook 165/180, interchangable processors (25/33MHz) - Powerbook 520/540, interchangable processors (25/33MHz) - PPC upgradeable (100/117/133/167/187MHz) - Powerbook 190, logicboard upgrade to 5300 (33 to 100MHz) ------------------ Captain Z - Sniper 68K Macintosh Liberation Army 17 68K Macs Liberated |

Slowly walks forward with Apple ][ Stick of Justic™...BTW, I believe the PB 190 had a special upgrade card to pump it up to 5300 speed, with out a Mobo exchange. ------------- Spring has sprung, fall has fell, winters here and it's colder then usual. Direct quote from LowEndMac.comquote:
Because the 190 and 5300 share the same case any many other enclosures, it is possible to upgrade your 190 with 5300 components by swapping in the video card (which adds support for an external monitor) and/or an active matrix screen. You can also install the infrared circuitry if you have a reason to.
I am guessing that it is either a 5300 logic board replacement, or a PPC upgrade daugtheracard (like the ones used on the 500 series). By the way, I got the upgrade installed finally, and after reinstalling Mac OS 7.6.1 (68K installed, not FAT), QuickTime 4.1.2 (of off MacAddict 49 CD) and other minor programs. Now I am flying at 100MHz! ------------------ Captain Z - Sniper 68K Macintosh Liberation Army 17 68K Macs Liberated |
