I have had this for awhile and noticed today that it matched the port on my new 512k with the MIDI thing on back, what can I do with it?http://homepage.mac.com/timaclover/cable.jpg Jeremy "I'll see you on the Dark Side Of The Moon" - Pink Floyd Covert Ops 68k Hacks General Macs Liberated:17 ENTER THROUGH THE GATES Edited by - TiMacLover on 09 Apr 2002 15:32:47 |

Well, the MIDI port you have on the 512k is for just that, MIDI. If you get a hold of any MIDI keyboard/equipment, you can connect it to the 512k and use an app like Trax to sequence it.666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 Regular Disappear! |

That's just a regular MIDI cable. If you get something like ConcertWare MIDI, Encore, or Finale, you can hook up a MIDI keyboard and use it to enter notes to print sheet music. You can also use a MIDI sequencer like Cubase to create MIDI files.Macs Liberated: SE, IIsi, Quadra 700, 6100, PB 5300, PowerMac 5400 PCs liberated from Windows: 3 |

Hey, I have a similar plug, except it's midi (?) on one end and serial on the other. I tried connecting my midi keyboard to my 950 with all the software i thought I needed and nothing worked. i was wondering. if it might not be for midi, btw, it is an apple cable, due to the apple logo on it.Working: PM 8500 g3 420mhz (Daisy) Quadra 950 w/ videovision studio card ;-) (Christina) Quadra 650 Performa 476 PB 165 Classic Newton 130 Non-working... is it a male or a female connector? if it's a female like the one in the pic, try plugging an IBM keyboard into it. maybe it adapts an XT or AT keyboard for use on the serial port? dunno, sounds like a strange duck!jt ™. .

yeah, i've thought of that, and i have one of those keyboards, but i didn't think apple would support such a keyboard and why would it go through serial? it's the male, like the end in the pic above. i'll take a pic of it later today and post it.Working: PM 8500 g3 420mhz (Daisy) Quadra 950 w/ videovision studio card ;-) (Christina) Quadra 650 Performa 476 PB 165 Classic Newton 130 Non-working... could convert serial to XT or PC serial too! dunno, like i said, sounds like a strange beast! could it be an Apple // or /// or even a Lisa accessory?jt ™. . Edited by - Trash80toG-4 on 19 May 2002 07:59:13

ok, i just answered my own question. It's connection cable for connecting an apple IIc and and apple ImageWriter II or II/L ImageWriter LQ. I hope this helps you, timaclover, out. I don't know which end goes where since i don' have either machine. I might pick the IIc up sometime this week and see what's up with it.Working: PM 8500 g3 420mhz (Daisy) Quadra 950 w/ videovision studio card ;-) (Christina) Quadra 650 Performa 476 PB 165 Classic Newton 130 Non-working...
