One of these appeared on ebay - and it looks rather nice, and has an apple logo on it. I want it! (am I superficial or -what-!). Anyone know how good/bad/useful they are?ta :) dana |

They're pretty good - quite decent for an old item. Postage will be EXPENSIVE, tho.~Coxy - Leader, Tactical Operations Unit 00014 Macs liberated |

I have an Apple Color OneScanner 1200/30 that I got new and the scan quality on it is great. It is a lot better than my much newer Afga scanner, the only one I have to compare it to. Of course the Afga one only cost 120 dollars and the Apple one was over 600 dollars, which probably has something to do with it.AnubisTTP 68k Macintosh Liberation Army Macs Liberated:15 |

BEWARE!Scanners don't travel well. It might pay to remind the seller to lock the cathode. But I'm sure you knew that Cheers! CC Current score: 1 Apple //e 2 LC IIs 1 LC III 1 LC 475 1 PB 520c 1 Quadra 700 1 Quadra 800 2 Powermac 6100s 1 Wallstreet

I saw a LaserWriter Select 360 and a original OneScanner for 40bucks (for both)...How good is the original? Any personal experiences? -------------------- keeper of the website and beholder of the Quadra/Centris Stick of Justice™ -------------------- |

if ther're more than a couple of years apart in age, i wouldn't be at all surprised to find that operator experience is not largest contributing factor in the performance discrepancy. check old ads to see if they occupy similar levels in the performance scale for their respective age categories.i'm curious about the price/performance curve shifts over time in general, but scanners seem to be the sector with the most dramatic changes. jt ™

here's some specs...the original OneScanner vs. my UMAX Astra 610Shttp://www.theapplemuseum.com/products/miscellaneous/scanner/onescanner.html vs http://www.image-acquire.com/scanner/html/umax610s.shtml Seems the OneScanner is nice for 8bit greyscale scans...20.4 secs...

I have a B&W OneScanner and it works OK. It runs through SCSI, and uses a program called ophoto or something. It has a funky green light inside and it's heavy.Macs Liberated: SE, IIsi, Quadra 700, 6100, PB 5300, PowerMac 5400 PCs liberated from Windows: 3 |

I think most of the reason why the Color OneScanner scans turn out so much better than the Afga scans is because the software for Apple scanner is good and the software for the Afga scanner is much less so. The Afga software adds some sort of distortion to all the scans based on what type of scan it thinks it is (photo, glossy, etc). This software inposed degrading makes the pictures look a lot worse, and it can not be turned off completely. Since the Apple software does not try to change the image any when it scans it, there seem to be less artifacts. Some of it also most likely stems from the more advanced scanning mechinsim the Apple scanner has. (I don't remember the exact names for the types of scanning systems, but the Afga uses the one where the CCD is in direct contact with the scanning surface, and the Apple one uses the system where a moving prism is in contact with the scanning surface and reflects the image into a CCD in a different location.)AnubisTTP 68k Macintosh Liberation Army Macs Liberated:15 |

A Color OneScanner would be mighty tasty...but seriously, what good would the original greyscale OneScanner be...besides the novelty of having an original OneScanner...-------------------- keeper of the website and beholder of the Quadra/Centris Stick of Justice™ -------------------- Edited by - FireWire is fast on 10 Apr 2002 09:16:02 |

I wouldn't bother actually buying a greyscale scanner now-a-days, as a color one can be had for the same amount. However, if you happen to have one lying around or get one for free, it would be fine for OCR, faxing or scanning B&W art photos! 666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 Regular Disappear! |

OCR, oh yeah - forgot about that ...I'm not a photographer, so... I guess I'll let some other lucky fellow buy the OneScanner, then... -------------------- keeper of the website and beholder of the Quadra/Centris Stick of Justice™ -------------------- |
