So. Being new, I'll start with my latest find :D. I'm terribly into case design, and didn't have any of the 630/6x00 cased macs - then a cheap LC630 came up on ebay - which turned out to be a Q630 in a LC630 case!. I was a little buzzed!. It's been my latest toy, and has debian installed on an external drive, which ran well as a proxy server for a couple of days. Having the possibility of 2 ethernet cards could mean it makes do as a basic kind of router machine one day :D. As a little introduction also - I have 20-something macs, I've lost count. Mostly LC's & Quadras, with a few powermacs and an iMac thrown in :D. My favourite of the lot is a Quadra 605 - I'm a pizzabox lover and they have the cutest little feet . I have this obsession with photoshop and macs too... see: http://www.danamania.com/lcv.jpg for an LC V http://www.danamania.com/images/5100.jpg for a 5100 and... http://www.danamania.com/classicx.jpg for something else entirely :) dana (I wanna paint the iMac beige) -- http://www.danamania.com/ -- |

I'd have to say, if you didn't mention that those pictures were doctored, I almost believed those models. Nice job! ------------------ Captain Z - Sniper 68K Macintosh Liberation Army 17 68K Macs Liberated |

Huh? I thought the earliest supported macs were the G3's. Man, i was at my aunt and uncle's house for thanksgiving, and I noticed a color classic off in a corner. I didn't really want to ask about it, since I know they are worth a little bit, and anything I'd be willing to pay them would be ripping them off. They're family. Now I wonder if I should have...But now wait a minute: how could a color classic run OS X?? I suppose you'd need some sort of upgrade card, but I remember a MA article a while ago where they did a bunch of upgrades. They couldn't get OS X running on anything but macs that SHIPPED with a G3. The attempt with the LC III resulted in kernal panic and there was some other reason that it didn't work on the 9500. I'm fairly sure that the earliest models are the desktop G3's. { candyPunk } { 68k MLA } { Macs liberated: 6 } { My baby: Q660av } |

Any system that Apple shipped with a G3 (except original PowerBook G3) can run Mac OS X.The ColorClassics ~Coxy is speaking of are ones that people upgraded to G3 status (commonly via a 6400/6500 mobo -> G3 upgrade) FireWire is fast General, 4 star 68k Macintosh Liberation Army |
