The keys came off really easy. I disassembled the keyboard first and individually analyzed the keys. Most of the square keys (Letters, Numbers, etc.) popped off with prying them up with a small flat head screw driver. The larger rectangular keys there is a metal connector which had to be removed from the base and then the keys came right up.

be on the lookout for a specialized keycap puller tool or make one. they sometimes have them as gimmes at MacWorld. (or maybe that was pc expo?) i'll google around for an image and edit it in later or i'll dig one out and link a pic, i've got a couple different types. that is one bad@$$ machack, *********! jt =8-} back already:http://www.streettech.com/archives_DIY/capsOff.html

i think that's enough to get the idea!gotta love that google!

this subject came up over on fritter and i thought this was something that would make another good peripherals topic. even a really talented and capable hacker cant be expected to know all the tricks. a creative approach and determination usually win out, but application specific tools cut down on the effort required and help to prevent possible damage. anybody got a favorite tool to recommend? jt |

 | Posted - 05 Apr 2002 :  18:35:32 i was checking out one of the sites in the links above and their toolkit info is interesting. this is a pc oriented site, but troubleshooting info is a lot more platform independent than most people would imagine, IMHO.
http://www.sasked.gov.sk.ca/curr_content/maintenance/ haven't gone over it in depth, but it looks very good.anybody got similar sites to share?

Why do you need a long shaft T8? I have the set of three screwdrivers that you get from Dick Smiths (the one where you get the T8, T10, and T15), and i've never really found the need for a long shafted tool while tearing apart and reassembling my 145B. Long shafted T15s sure come in handy when you're tearing apart compacts though. -------------------------- Pizzabox LCs RULE!!!!!!! Warrior maclover568k Macintosh Liberation Army

Anyway, it doesn't need to be LOOONNNGGG shafted, but just fairly averagey length and with a narrowy shaft... if you get what I mean. You can't use a bit for recessed screws! ~Coxy - Leader, Tactical Operations Unit00014 Macs liberated

Maybe that is the type of thing Apple should make, like the case cracker, and the CRT discharge tool. I can see it now... Windows zealot jabbing tool Apple service part number 29801-4 AnubisTTP68k Macintosh Liberation Army
