found this tidbit:every last pref in my profile was set to "annoy me at your earliest convenience"! time for some fictionalization! quote:
Author: atomik (---.client.xxxxx.com) Date: 03-29-02 23:33 Hi folks. Thought you might like to know that Yahoo might have adjusted your 'profile' to accept what looks like unlimited spam. http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/privacy/privacy-23.html To reset those prefs, go to http://edit.my.yahoo.com/config/eval_profile Then, click on EDIT YOUR MARKETING PREFERENCES and you'll see what I mean. If you're like me, none of my info is legit, but if your real phone # and address are in there, you're a good candidate for a spam carpet bombing.
source: http://dealmac.com/forums/read.html?f=1&i=712514&t=709990 if figured this was appropriate considering recent security concerns. raWr is right, you get what you pay for, one way or another! jt ™
p.s. i'm not crazy about the tag to your address (i edited the one above) that they append even if you don't give them an e-mail address at dealmac. has anybody seen this before? Edited by - Trash80toG-4 on 04 Apr 2002 12:47:34 |

Honestly, I'm more worried if the spammers get a legit email address rather than a mailing address. After all, nobody really minds the catalogs in the letterbox, you just throw them out.Phone numbers are worse, but you can always hang up on tele-marketing people. ~Coxy - Leader, Tactical Operations Unit 00014 Macs liberated |

I saw a story about this on a news site about 15 minutes before seeing this post. I went in and turned off all the spam settings pretty quickly.AnubisTTP 68k Macintosh Liberation Army Macs Liberated:15 |
