Screen Oddity

There are stripes of different lightness going horizontally and vertically from windows and images (i.e. the startup smiley face). Is this normal? Sgt. I'm lazy tonight - but if it's a passive matrix screen, then thats what gets called 'banding'. it's Just How It Is! Of course, if its particularly bad, or is active matrix... then it's just plain Broke :D dana

P.S. - The title of this thread made me think of the electronic music group, Soul Oddity, whom I haven't heard a record from since '97.
