Yo Yo adapter

Will this work with a 1400CS? The plug that connects to the Powerbook looks the same as on the 1400 type power supply. Are the voltages the same as well?

There are two types of Yo-Yo adaptors:

- The one that shipped with Clamshell iBooks and Pismo PowerBook G3s

- The type that shipped with iBook G3 (dual USB) and TiBooks

Both of them are the same electrically, but the one that shipped with TiBooks has a different connector, the connector used on all later PowerBooks and iBooks up until the release of the MacBook Pro, and will not work.

Yeah, I noticed that from pictures on ebay. The connector on the newer ones looks like it is shorter than the older version so it probably wouldn't reach far enough inside the power socket to make good contact.

It's more than simply shorter. The diameter of the center plug is also one mm smaller.

In a pinch, you can use a simple 3.5mm-to-2.5mm stereo adapter to power up a newer 'book with an older yoyo. Radio Shack and others sell these very cheaply (a couple of dollars US). Just get one with a rubbery plastic molding, and cut it back enough to allow proper insertion into the larger the 3.5mm yoyo plug. The result is not mechanically stable or pretty, but in an emergency, it gets the job done.

Just buy the replacement from Other World Computing. I got one for a fraction of the cost for my clamshell.

The only problem is that when I received it, my iBook had been out of the charger for almost three weeks and the battery was already five years old. The results when I tried to use it off the adaptor were as all of you probably think--no go.
