Yardsale Quadra

I stopped by a church yardsale today and off in the corner was a Quadra 610 in almost perfect condition with a caddy load CD. The case was a bit yellowed. For $5 I took it home and it booted right up to OS 7.5. I added some ram and vram. It has a 250mb hard drive loaded with classic games like Monopoly and Microsoft Flight Simulator. I have a Quadra 660av board for it as well as the back case panel from a 660av I stripped for parts. I'm not sure if I should leave it stock or upgrade it. I have another working 660av already but it has a cracked case and is missing a hard drive, CD, and CD bezel. How about it, upgrade or not? :?:

The quaudra 610 was the first mac I ever owned! I also bought it at a yard sale for $5.00. I swapped the harddrive and cpu into a Quadra 605. But I still have the rest of the 610 tucked away in the basement for future considerations!!

I decided to give a 1.9gb hard drive with OS 8.1 a try in it. It now has 53mb of ram so 8.1 doesn't seem too sluggish. I loaded Netscape 4.08 for 68k and am making this post on my newly acquired Quadra.

The 610 gives you the option of some upgrades (DOS, Nubus, PPC?) the AV won't take IIRC. And the AV board would be a great one to mount in another case, like a busted CD player or something, to use in the living room

I think the Quadra/Centris 660av looks great in its pizza box. I recall almost trading a Power Macintosh 6100/60 for a Centris 660av in 1996 for the advanced features the 660av has. It's really an incredible Macintosh, even when stacked against the first generation Power Macintosh computers.

I got a 610 about 3 weeks ago. You have to love the auto-inject floppy opening on that case. It's a must for any collection.
