Working with floppies in 6.0.8

My SE is starting to be a really nice box to work on, but several things about juggling disks and images have been confusing me:

1. I have 800k drives, but can't I use HD images? Even though I have 4MB of RAM, Disk Copy won't let me. Is there a trick to opening them, or a better utility for this?

2. Why swap disks around when I can fit the whole thing in RAM anyway? I have a formatting utility on an 800k disk. If I boot my SE/30 from floppy and try loading this program it makes me swap disks eleven times - but my 17 MB of RAM can hold both disks in their entirety! Is there a way to load the whole disk into RAM from the outset?

Any tips about these things would really help this System 6 n00b. A HD floppy is really the only thing I feel I am lacking on here for some "newer" software. Maybe I will try one of those "floptical" drives sometime to see if it works.

Mountimage may work for 1.4MB images but it is a while since I last used it.

Running your System from a RAM disk may help to cut down on floppy drive shuffle. Also set up a shared network folder that contains your essential utilities. All you need then is a network boot disk, and all of your applications are available.
