couple of days ago i scored a 2008 penryn macbook white for free. apprently it suffered from this problem:

easy enough to fix, now fully functional with snow 10.6.8! thing is near mint, lovely computer, now to bump up the ram from 2 to 4 gigs, and a micron m4 ssd, this thing will be a modern day contender. imo the modern aluminum designs suck compared to this champ, this is apple at it's peak after jobs came back. even on the used market, they fetch 400-500, and even at that price they are a lot of bang for the buck.
also scored a macbook pro 2008 with non working screen due to nvidia graphics card failure. turned it on and wrapped it in a blanket upside down for 1.5 hours, now working again, just need to put a hardrive in it. classic machine, with style and elegance, with shitty BGA, a shame really.
