Welcome Home Surprise: Mac 128K!!!

I came back home to Pittsburgh yesterday. I've got my first day of business tomorrow (tutoring) so I'm using today to unpack and unwind a bit (already did my homework for the business in advance so I'm ready to go once I reassemble my desk--my afternoon project).

This morning, I got a text from my dad. He said he had something for me and would swing it by the house. Much to my surprise, it was a Mac 128K! It appears to be fully original (although it has a platinum Plus keyboard); he told me it boots to a sad Mac. I haven't tried it yet but it does have some original floppies, the original accessory box, the manual, and both cassette tapes intact. In addition, there was a boxed ImageWriter II (the cream colored model) to go with it!

This is the same guy who unearthed my boxed Lisa--could I possibly have the coolest dad in the MLA-verse?

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, wait. You have a boxed Lisa?!? Damn!

Hopefully you can get the 128k back in working shape. Maybe it is just caps?

My 512K will periodically boot to a sad mac if it doesn't read the floppy. It is also picky about the floppy brand apparently.

You might get double lucky and just need a decent floppy disk to get it to boot.

That's awesome, where did your dad pick that up from?

OK--to answer everyone's questions!!!

1. I do have a boxed Lisa 2! I'll be exhibiting it at the VCF next year. I also have all the original boxed software, manuals, developer set, etc.

2. Both the 128K and the Lisa came from old co-workers of my dad. He's a retired school supervisor.

3. The Sad Mac was the 0F0064 code. The problem seems to be an inconsistent floppy drive. It works but sticks now and then. However, I did get it to boot successfully off a system disk, so the Mac itself works! It booted fine from the backup system disk marked "System Software 1990" in the box (although this was a Finder 4.1/System 2.0 disk) but not the original MacWrite/MacPaint floppy.

4. Now I need to figure out what to actually do with this Mac!!!

So glad it works! The Mac 128k population is dwindling because of errors and problems and people who think they aren't worth anything. Another 128k saved.

Congrats!
