I spotted this auction on eBay and that made me remember my too soon ended love affair with one of my never thought I'd find it conquests, which I don't recall posting.

Mine's not nearly as pretty nor as flexible as that auction's boxed 3400 version compatible with the PowerBooks 190 through Kanga, but I was very happy with it . . .

. . . until I left it plugged in overnight and it was DOA the next day.

So I pulled it out of the 5300c/ce parts bind and attacked it with every . . . whatever I had on hand . . . including Acetone . . .

. . . unfortunately, now the nice face looks like this:

. . . but the F1 tested bad, now I can see if popping a fresh F3.15AH250V in there will bring it back to life!

I need to cut some holes in the previously intact cover skin on the front, but I'm happy! :approve:

 
I've ordered some 5mm x 20mm fast blow ceramic fuses, I hope they're the right kind. It seems like the slow blow versions are all larger.

Is that what the F suffix to the Amperage spec. means? :?:

 
Is it really that hard to carry a brick with you? I mean, for the unique factor it might be nice, but I hardly say it's probably worth the small fortune it would've commanded in the day. The best thing about some external bricks is that they can have really long cords making an unbelievable stretch to a table in the middle of the room. If you don't want the stretch, just shore up the cables with something like one of those cable ties that are adjustable and reusable.

I keep the long cable on my MacBook PSU because it stretches to wherever I need. Considering that not all tables are next to the wall, it comes in way handy when dealing with distance.

It looks like you would need an extension cord to use that in a considerable distance from the wall. Much better just to use a brick. It might be worth more if it attached to an external battery pack and converted from that. A wall plug, not so much...

 
A 190/5300 is already a large brick, this is much handier than the FDD and makes more sense than the empty weight saver module. It ships with the male to male equivalent of the brick's cord in order to use it with a FDD in place so the combo is just as long as any brick's two cords and the adapter is less bulky.

Besides, who doesn't carry an extension cord? :lol:

 
Dunno if this is supposed to have fast blow or slow blow fuses, but boy am I glad I bought the fast blow fuses first! 8-o

. . . I identified the smoke emitter as the heat sunk three legged bugger right next to that big blue .22k 630 doohickie. :?:

 
Shorted switching transistor. I've had the schrapnel of one almost take an eye out if I wasn't wearing glasses.

From your first picture I can already see that it's previously emitted magic smoke and saved itself by blowing the fuse. When you replaced that it continued right back where the blown fuse left it and self-destructed.
