VNC server

Hi:

Do you know where I can get a newer VNC server then the one that comes with OS X.5?(PowerPC)

Also does anyone know if there is a VNC server for Mac OS 9?

Per the updated rules of the forum, although abandonware is still in and of itself illegal, it is allowed to be linked and talked about here, although we are still not hosting the files ourselves on this site.

Of curiosity, what are you trying to do?

There are 2 reason why I want to do this:

  1. If my Macs fail to display video I can still login and try and get them to redirect my display. (this should work at lest in OS X).
  2. Be able to remotely connect to them when getting servers and network shares working, so I don't have to keep flipping KVM switches.
UPDATE: I know OS X has a server but I've always found it unresponsive. I find vine a lot more responsive except for when doing anamastionts but that's no big deal. Still this does not help me on my OS 9 machine.

I'm looking for something free. I thought a flavor of VNC might be. I did have one for OS 9 before but it would crash often.(kind-of defeating the point of a headless solution)

"crash often" (sometimes bringing the whole system down with it) has been my experience with VNC servers on Mac OS 9 as well.

If you're doing the control from relatively contemporary Macs, Timbuktu is probably the better solution.
