VCF Goodies!!!

I scored two new Macs at the VCF this weekend!!

1. Mac IIcx. Doesn't boot but has a 13" Apple HiRes. Caps look OK, may need a new battery.

2. Mac SE. Boots, MiniScribe won't spin up. Maxed out RAM wise.

I know I'm trying to get rid of some Macs, but I couldn't pass these up. If I weren't so frugal right now, I would be lugging home a Quadra 950 and a IIfx right now too.

Come to think of it, I do have a tax refund coming for me sometime soon...I should get back in touch with the guy (I do have his contact) and see if that IIfx is still available! He's in Georgia and I'm thinking of heading to Atlanta sometime to see a Braves game in the next few weeks, so it may work out!

He's got a bunch of IIci/IIcx and other modular Macs. 950s seem to be his specialty restoration-wise. I should see about inviting him here; I bet he could clear his entire warehouse out.

CC, I forgot about your offer, it seemed like it was dependent upon getting another. If you snag that 1400cs eight hours from now, I can send you some goodies for it, LMK!

Scott, do you still want one of the Apple AAUI Cards?

Trash: I decided not to get the 1400cs for now. Thank you, though! When I'm ready, I'm sure there will be more.

And regarding the IIcx, I do have another coming, and it should arrive shortly, so that contingency is satisfied. One of them can be yours if you want it.

Does it have to have a working floppy?

c

Nah, the MoBo, the box and the drive tower are all that I require, the rest I can borrow from the other machines or hack something together. I've got oodles of FDDs . . .

. . . some of them even work! :approve:

^ I know that a similar procedure on the Quantam ProDrives is only temprorary-it needs doing every time you use the drive. Is it a similar story with the MiniScribe?

I can't comment on the Quantum ProDrive sticktion issue as I have not seen that particular drive suffer from that, but my experience with many MiniScribe drives over the years is that they'll usually continue working after you get them unstuck, provided they're used regularly. If I unstick them and then put the drive away for a few months (or years) I'll have to unstick it again.
