Will be getting legitimate original Microsoft Office 98. How upgradeable is it?

Why not go straight to Microsoggy and see what's available? Some years ago I rounded up the available 'improvements' for '98 and the like, but used fewer than half of them after looking at them closely. ClamXav was recently highly critical of one that I had not deleted immediately.

I was thinking more in terms of using Office 98 as a jumping-off point for moving up to newer versions, rather than getting the "best" Office 98. Perhaps Office 2001 or something even more recent. I will browse Micro$oft to see what I can see...
Office 2001 is the last OS 9 version, if I recall. And I don't think you can update from, say, 98 to 2001 with one upgrade. MS wanted you to buy a new version.

You couldn't even go from Windows 98 to Win98 2nd Edition if I recall without buying a whole new product.
You can upgrade from 98SE, ME, and 2000 to XP for cheaper then a full license.
I think there was a special edition of 98SE that was very cheap if you already had 98FE, about £20 or something, as well as a regular "Upgrade" edition of 98SE for owners of 3.1 and 95. There's always been Upgrade and Full editions of Windows (and Office for Windows), the upgrade ones being cheaper and allowing you to use the last few versions of Windows, the two together making one licence for the new version (ie you're not licensed to have the old version installed on a separate PC when you've got the new "upgrade" version installed). Vista upgrade, for instance, is a lot cheaper than the full version and can be combined with a copy of 2000 or XP to make a full Vista licence, while XP upgrade can be used with a copy of NT4/98/Me/2000.
