Unsure what to upgrade my VideoVision from

CelGen

68000
So I have a fairly beefed up 950 (80mhz PPC and 192mb ram) I'm contemplating upgrading from my Radius VideoVision (which does not work with the PowerPC mode on my PowerPro 601)...

...to the Avid NuVista + JPEG board set...

...OR to the NuBus version of the Media100.

I don't know much about either setup other than they both wipe the floor with the VideoVision. I have both of the above cards with their cables but none of their disks. The key thing I want to get is the ability to use the boards with software OTHER than what is bundled with the card (like Avid VideoShop or QuickTime Streaming)

The VideoVision boardset is pretty sweet if you have at least the Studio compression daughtercard; the Telecast rackmount box is even nicer. If it's just a base VideoVision then you should totally upgrade!

I only have experience with the VVS myself, but the NuBus Media100 system is the one I always dreamed of using. I'd say go for that one. Doesn't the Media 100 NuBus system support a small set of realtime video effects, even?

The VV can be upgraded to Telecast with the breakout box, huge custom cable, and a very hard to find Nubus card that connects to the VV. I have the PCI Telecast setup and just the Normal Nubus variety.

Media 100 works well on a PPC , I have one in a 81/110 Radius machine. The software is hard to find (I have originals) and without the ADB dongle it doesn't work at all.

As far as the Avid Nuvista cards you will need a special software key plus the hard to find AVID software that supports those cards. Later AVID systems used ADB dongles.

Most high end systems are pretty much useless without dongles and their original software, the low end capture cards would work with programs like Premiere.

My VV is already the Studio model and yes, I do have a complete telecast system boxed away but its massive. I'm saving that for when I can get a half rack to put all my tape decks and ProTools gear in. The main issue still however is that so long as the BOB is attached I can't enter PowerPC mode or else the system blows chimes. That's the main reason I was considering replacing it.

Looking at my bin of dingles I can only immediately tell I have dongles for Avid's Media/Film Composer 6. All the other dongles are pure mysteries to me. I wish there was a way to read some sort of identifier that was coded on them.
