I just got myself a 1.25GHz Lamp but I don't know if it's a 17 inch or a 20 inch. Got it with a beastly old XPS laptop, it works but the hard drive seems to be dead.

Look up the model number or just use a tape measure (diagonally). The 20" is 1680x1050 native resolution, the 17" is lower.

Hard drives are easy to replace.

Turned out to be a 17 inch. I was hoping it was a 20 but I can live with 17, especially being a 1.25GHz.

Where did you dig it up? Also what model laptop?

A guy who used to do PC repair for me had it. The laptop's a XPS M1710 with a 2.33GHz Core2 Duo and 4GB of RAM, should make a great gaming machine for older PC games.

Is that model 1920x1200 and 7900GTX go 512Mb? If so its a nice setup, but you would have to use real old games for that native resolution and GPU combo.

Mine is 256MB, sadly. Guess the purchaser didn't spring for the full powered GPU. It is 1920x1200 though. 

I bet it will play Halo pretty god damned good.

Snagged a duplicate MacBook as a spare. I don't have a HD with this one, are there any good Linux live cds for it?

Any 32-bit version of Ubuntu ought to work reasonably well. Maybe 64-bit, if it has a C2D.

I found out that the old Thinkpad HD sleds will fit in the MacBook so I installed OSX 10.6 for now. Was reading somewhere that 32bit Linux Live CDs have issues with booting on the Macbooks and you can't boot 64bit OS.

I think there are special live CDs (for Ubuntu, anyway) catered to the Mac's various... unique attributes, which ought to work.

I've dabbled in it before, and they mostly work, so I don't know....

Just got in a Radeon 7000 Mac32M PCI with DVI. Makes using a LCD monitor with a PCI mac so much easier, have not tested it yet.

I have 2 others, one of which is the original (pre 7000 name with T&L). This one was on ebay listed as the AGP model and only cost around $11 shipped.

Snagged a boxed Disk Tools Pro v 3. Box says its universal so PPC and X86 supporting OSX 10.3.9 and above.

PS also snagged 13 SATA laptop drives for stock 80-320GB.
