.TTF and Mac OS 9 Problems

Hi, haven't posted in a while.

I was under some impression that .ttf files had native OS 9 support, but unfortunately, it seems to be an unrecognized filetype on my Powerbook G3. I'm planning to use these fonts with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, if anyone knows anything I can try, would be much appreciated.

Make sure the .ttf is a ”classic truetype” from the period. New truetype fonts are actually opentype fonts, with, among other things, quadratic bezier outlines and instructions.

There is an open source converter that you can try. I had patchy results with mono spaced fonts (what I wanted), but it might work better with ordinary proportional font files.

i forget the name, but I expect it will come if you go looking.

TTF font files from that period were different for Windows and Macintosh, also. It is possible to conveniently convert Wondows TTF to Mac TTF and vice versa, for example with the Mac application FontClerk. Fontographer is professional tool to create or customize TTF and PS fonts.
