Toshiba T1000 8088 Laptop

Picked up 2 Toshiba 8088 Intel CPU laptops. They have an 80-column display for an LCD (Super-Twist) Display. It's rather interesting. It has DOS 2.11 in ROM, and has an external Floppy drive (5.25")

Amazingly, the battery in this still works!

It has an RGB Connector, and a Composite (black and white), but I can't get the composite working :( I tried it on a TV (the only display I have), but it won't show video.

It has an internal 720k 3.5" Floppy drive. External ports are: LPT, Serial, Modem (300baud), Modem, RGB, Comp, and what looks to be a ethernet jack. but it seems to be a customer card since it's right next to the modem. Token ring or something?

When I opened it up, it had room for an expansion RAM slot, which can take a 1.2MB Expansion slot.

I ordered 5.25" (x22) and 3.5" (x10) Floppies. The 5.25" are 360K, and the 3.5" are 720k

The floppies were $20 shipped altogether, and the floppies are brand new and guaranteed to have no errors (we shall see...) So I hope they get here soon.

I have the T1200, which has a switch to make it run at either 9 or 4.5MHz.

I don't know about your T1000, but my LCD on the T1200 is BLUE and white.

These are pretty good laptops. I used a T1200 as my primary laptop from 1994-2000 (until I got my iBook). The keyboards are excellent and have a unique echo when the keys are pressed. These laptops can run DOS 5 and WordPerfect 5.1 pretty well (there is even a WordPerfect keyboard template available just for the Toshiba laptop series).

Yes, the T1000 has a bluish-and-"white" display. That laptop was quite the machine, back in its day. I remember running circuit simulations on it (Pspice student version), and thinking that this was the most amazing thing. It yielded answers only a bit more slowly than doing it by pen and paper. :)
