Timbuktu compatibility questions

If I have an old version of Timbuktu on a System 7 machine, can I control it form an OS X version of Timbuktu? Has anyone tried this?

I remember looking into this at one point and found a giant compatibility chart. I can't find it anymore. It looks like version 8.x of Timbuktu for Mac OS X is compatible back to Timbuktu 6.x, which only runs on Mac OS 8.6 and higher.

I wish I weren't just on break, but I should probably post it as a hacks topic.

I think I'm finally going to document everything I used w/Timbuktu Remote and a a video camera back in the day!

My eventual solution was to use an AddrLink ipeps device, which kinda sorta provides KVM over IP.

The problem is, it's interpreting the VGA signal to try to locate the cursor, and this detection is suboptimal, which results in a frustrating mousing experience. It's OK for just investigating something, but it's not terribly practical for actual regular use of the machine, unfortunately.

We need an 030 PDS/Nubus card that provides modern KVM/IP functionality!

Do you have a specific VNC server in mind? I haven't been able to find one that works on 68k System7 yet. I've come across at least 2 different VNC servers for PPC, but haven't tried them.

I have a legit older copy of Timbuktu. Used it years ago to control my Win2k server from my 840AV (OS 8.1), worked ok just a little video lag.

I can dig up the version and find the specs (should have the manual still) if you need the information.

FWIW, I've controlled a System 7 version of Timbuktu from the latest OS X version, despite the official compatibility matrix stating it won't work.
