This is interesting

MacIvory is basically a LISP machine on a NuBus card, I think.

I wouldn't mind that system at all:)

As usual, when they took the hard drive, they also took the hard drive mounting bracket. Geez. All they had to do was unscrew four more screws and toss the bracket back in the box. Sigh.

For those who haven't been bitten by this yet....

If you buy a computer whose hard drive has been removed, always check/ask whether the mounting bracket is still present. Too often, the folks who take the hard drives also take the hard-to-find mounting bracket as well.

The IIfx HD tray is the same used on the compacts I think.

What sucks about the missing HD is the missing drivers and software for those cards.

The 8.24GC card would be nice to have, but that unit is too expensive.

You can always substitute for the bracket with rubber bungee cord. It helps keep the noise down

whoa... i read about the macivory cards jsut some time ago :O

the company making them still has some in stock i think and is still selling them for loatsa $$$.

Speaking of hard drive brackets, the IIfx I got a little while ago had it attached with a strip of double-sided-sticky foam. The HD and 3/4 of the foam removed by the former owner. It actually worked very well (I saw it). Just leaves a bit of crap there now.

that foamy stuff is exactly how I quieted the 15,000 RPM hard drive in my computer at work. I love that idea. :)
One can also baffle the inside of the computer case with the speaker batting available (at least it used to be) at Radio Shack. One must be careful not to impede air flow, but when I had four of the original Barracuda 7200 RPM drives (ST32550) in a single machine, a layer of that stuff made a lot of difference in the noise level outside the machine.

It's not much fun to work with though, as it's either a lot like, or exactly like but a different color than attic insulation.

Or indeed with the heavy, barium impregnated vinyl sound deadening sheeting available from car audio places.

Sold for $338.45 cn. And appears to have drawn interest from Symbolics themselves. Hoping for something, anything they can still sell, mabye. I should have kept my mouth shut and bid low :-)

No, No. I didn't bid. I knew the moment I asked that it was for curiousity's sake. But I'm guessing I did drive up the price, what with the info that resulted.
