System 7.1P4?

What the heck is System 7.1P4? In todays conquest I got a bunch of floppies. Two are Utilities with System "Ver. 7.1P4", 690-0989 A. One looks stock, the other has been commandeered by Norton and has Speed Disk on it. If I get info in the Finder, I get the same version number. I thought the "P" might stand for Pro, but Pro came out at 7.1.1, right? Googles have failed me on this one.

A little more detail about the Utilities disk: the Utilities disk was basically the equivalent of the Disk Tools disk for Performas. I have a Utilities disk that came with a Performa 550 and has 7.1P5 on it. It has Apple HD SC Setup, Disk First Aid, and Apple Restore on it. Apple Restore was what you could use to restore a backup made with Apple Backup (which was bundled on the hard drive of the Performas).

This was a Performa specific derivative of System 7.1.0. They go all the way up to 7.1P6.

Not to be confused with System 7.1.2P which was a Performa 630 derivative of 7.1.2 and the very last version of the System 7.1.x family of OSes to run on a 68k processor. However, system 7.1.2P will install on any 68k that can run System 7.1.x without any trouble.

Interestingly, System 7.1.2P & System 7.5 both shared the same Finder version, Finder 7.1.4. Finder wasn't updated to a 7.5.x version until the release of MacOS 7.5.1
