SuperMac Thunder24 issues/questions

I'm in the process of doing a fresh install of 8.6 on my suped-up 8100/110.

So far the only issue I am having with it is that the image is way too bright. It's a Thunder/24 with DSP card attached connected to a Viewsonic Mac-VGA adapter which is connected via KVM switch to an Acer 17: LCD panel.

I have tried to adjust the brightness by selecting one of the monitor calibration profiles and have had some slight success in the department.

The SuperMac 3.1 control panel and extension are installed. The DSP software is not yet installed.

Any ideas on getting the brightness/contrast to non-blinding levels?

To be honest, I don't know if the DSP software works or not. What I really want is to get the video looking like it should. Right now it's almost too bright to use.

With my Thunder/24, there's a setting in the classic Monitors control panel (under Options...) that allows me to display at 1024x768 with a reduced refresh rate and sync on green turned off ("no SOG", to be precise). I believe it was at 60 Hz.

That should do it, I think. Monitors that don't support sync on green with some video cards can produce a washed out picture that's tinted either white or green. I've seen both on one monitor of mine with two different Radius cards and the integrated video of a Quadra 800 mobo.

As for how to get that setting to show up, you might need Dynamic Desktop as well, which doesn't work under OS 8.6. Not sure what software alternatives there are... maybe SwitchRes has some option you can use to turn off SOG?
