Stylewriter II problem

JRL

68000
I can't print from my Stylewriter for some strange reason. The cables are tight and everything is connected, but my Powerbook eventually gets the "no connection" message. Could it just be a cable problem? It worked fine yesterday.

Standard things to check:

1) Cable; either through substitution, or checking the connections with an ohmmeter.

2) Connectors: Pins and socket clean? Pins straight?

3) Software: Try reinstalling the SW software and see if that helps.

4) Brain: Correct printer selected in Chooser? Printer powered up and turned on? :)

I will definitely try another cable, as I have a pile of them that I got for free from school.

4a) Brain: cable plugged into appropriate plug? Some PBs have two external serial connectors, some just one. In case you put an internal modem into a PB160/180, the external modem port gets disabled.

4b) Brain: StyleWriter does not like AppleTalk too much. In case you activated AppleTalk for the serial port the StyleWriter is attached to, it is most likely not operational (except you use an AppleTalk bridge attached to the StyleWriter).

Well, it turned out that one of the pins was bent on the defective cable. Thanks everyone!
