Stripping Down 7.6.1 for IIci

I have 7.6.1 and I'd be interested in running on my IIci--since I have an accelerator and sufficient RAM it's not a dog--but I sense that there is a lot of extraneous in there that just takes up space and perhaps memory in terms of control panels and extensions. Does anyone have experience stripping out elements of 7.6.1 to run it lean and proper without any extra for a IIci?

Best,

John

Get a copy of the InformINIT database, and either Symbiont or Conflict Catcher. Both of those will reveal a lot more INITs and System Folder files to activate or deactivate than Extensions Manager. Reading up on each one in InformINIT will help you work out which ones you can safely disable.

I used to keep separate sets for different purposes - one for MIDI and music for example, that disabled Appletalk and other needless things, and one for internet use which was kinda the reverse. And another very bare set for debugging and repair.

Great stuff Bunsen... Looks like 2 more apps to look through my archives for.... I just did that all by experimentation and moving things out of the system folders until I got a good internal knowledge of what was what. These apps sure would have made that easier back then. Actually now 15 some years later it sounds like a good thing to go back and brush up one again with the help of these apps.

Been working out things in SheepShaver recently and realizing how much I've forgotten over the years.
