StarMax 3000 with no sound output :(

I have one of these aesthetically challenged machines and I can't get it to make a single chime, eep, quack... anything! I've cleaned and reseated the speaker connection and that didn't help. It's been a while, but the audio output didn't work either. (I may need to double-check this again.)

It's been sitting in my storage closet for a while and I was thinking I'd take it to be recycled. The 4400 series machines weren't exactly awesome... but I've decided I'd like to take another crack at getting it working "just because." Not to mention even though it has a compromised design, it's still cool, in its own way. I guess. :)

Granted I only have 16MB of the oddball RAM the machine requires, so if I really want to use it I'll need to scrounge up more.

But back to the point: any ideas why this might not work or what to look for? I did install the OS from the original CD thinking it might have been a software issue but that didn't fix it. :(

Two minor things...

1) I'm sure you already tried that, but have you tried resetting the PRAM? (let the machine reboot at least three times).

2) Once I tried the following with a mute computer and it worked: I plugged my headphones in and then unplugged them. The machine 'talked' again.

Cheers

Rick

Ahh, sorry... when I read no chime, my mind translated that into not booting.

On these machines, it never hurts to try the CUDA button.

Good luck!
